Guy's Cancer Running

Mason Morgan

Brain Tumour Fighter

In September 2022, I learned that I had a high-grade brain tumour that is terminal cancer and, regrettably, incurable. Despite my diagnosis, I won't let cancer define me. Running allows me the chance to forget about my diagnosis for a moment. Exercise gives me the best chance to experience more years - although not guaranteed.

Being active and running; whether this be 5k, 10k, half marathon or a marathon distance - I want to prove that regardless of a cancer diagnosis you can still live a normal life and achieve things.

Why I'm Doing This

I was diagnosed with a high-grade aggressive brain tumour. For me, being diagnosed changed my life. I'm now doing everything I can to inspire others, raise awareness of cancer in any way I can, bring brain tumours to the conversation, and make them less taboo.

As soon as you mention the word 'cancer' someone's perception automatically changes. People can still do things and live a normal life despite their diagnosis.

My journey with cancer isn't unique, there are many other patients who have their world flipped upside down. I'm trying to take something negative and turn it into a positive.

I'm unable to take part in some of the sports I used to play, but running I can. Running can be beneficial for you not only physically but also mentally. It can help patients overcome some of their worries.

Guy's & Macmillan help patients from all backgrounds with support and get the care that they require. Without the services they provide, patients wouldn't know where to turn to.

Services

Improved Sleep

Your health depends on getting enough good sleep. You wake up feeling refreshed because as you sleep, your body repairs itself. Endorphins, substances that assist in reducing tension or pain, are released as a result of aerobic exercise.

Heightened Immunity

Running for 30 minutes can boost your immune system and make you feel better if you start to feel under the weather. Your chance of developing infections is drastically reduced by engaging in aerobic activity.

Better Mood & Energy

The desire to feel better drives a lot of individuals to run. Your mood, attention, and general quality of life are improved by the exercise. The runner's high is genuine.

Very Accessible

You only need a nice pair of running shoes to get started. Nevertheless, having the appropriate clothing will keep you cosy throughout the seasons.

If you’d like to help a patient, develop a cure, or offer a respite, you can make a donation today.

Running with Cancer Logo

Running with Cancer is a movement to show people that, despite receiving a diagnosis, you won't let it define you or prevent you from reaching your goals. They don't have to be dictated to by their condition. Each patient is still able to achieve big things and we want to be an example of this.
